Island Fencing Academy's Fencing Room

GROUP CLASSES:

YOUTH INTRO CLASS (ages 4-7) starts September and runs in two month blocks.  This class, formerly mini-musketeers, is for pre-schoolers, Kindergarteners and 1st Graders who love to leap over furniture at home and pretend to be Jedi Knights! Using plastic foils, practice vests, and light-weight masks, the structured fencing class teaches a new skill every other week, with repetition of skills emphasized. Fencing games are incorporated into each lesson. This fun class meets once a week for 45 minutes. Leave the light sabres at home . . . Equipment is provided!  The group class consists of a warm-up, footwork, structured fencing games, and bouting time. Sportsmanship is emphasized.

INTRO CLASS (Ages 7-14)
This is a one-time four week introductory class for students with little experience or no prior exposure to fencing. The Intro Class meets once a week for one hour and teaches the basic skills for all disciplines of fencing. The fee includes the use of equipment. Students will continue in a weapon suited for them and in an age-appropriate beginner class. (Intro Class Registration Form is located at the very bottom of this page.) $100

BEGINNER CLASS (ages 7-14)
A one hour class for students who have participated in the Intro Class or have less than one year of fencing experience. This class covers footwork, basic technique skills, bouting tactics, sport etiquette, and sportsmanship. Equipment is provided.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (ages 9-16)
COMPETITIVE YOUTH CLASS (ages 9-16)
A one to
one and a half hour class for students who are new to competitive fencing and have been training for at least one year. This class is also suitable for students who are new to competing at the local or national level. Classes may incorporate electrical bouting.

COMPETITIVE CLASS
A class for youth, cadet, and junior students who have at least one year competitive experience with fencing. Students in this class are annual members, take individual lessons, train two-three times a week, have their own electric and protective gear, and compete regularly in local to national events.


ADULT CLASS (ages 15 and up)- TBA
The Adult Class is designed for both beginners with little or no experience in fencing and experienced fencers who are looking to get back into the sport. We provide the equipment. (Equipment is available for purchase as well.) $30 per class. All weapons are covered.

Adults may also take introductory private lessons on a weeknight or weekend. The individual lesson fee is $35 for 20 minutes. Please call 516.576.0646 to schedule.

Please call to reserve a one hour group lesson for your troop!
To schedule a session please speak with Alan, a variety of times are available.  (price is based on a group of 10-12 participants)

BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Schedule a birthday party at IFA, participants take a crash-course in fencing with approximately 50 minutes of fencing instruction and 10-15 minutes of dueling. A party room is available for 30 minutes after the fencing.
There is a suggested maximum of 12 students suitable for ages 5-12.
